Master Bedroom – Start to Finish Makeover

| | |

If you’ve been following my blog you’ve seen a couple other posts about my master bedroom.  Including how to make Framed out Walls, make a Framed Corkboard, and Mix old & new furniture.  And now I’ve finally gotten around to taking new pics of the finished bedroom and wanted to share the entire transformation with you!

Here’s the “before”.  Teal & Brown stuff that I had for about 5 years in 3 different places we lived!

Husband wasn’t sold on buying all new furniture (which I can’t blame him for<–that gets pricey!) so I found these amazing vintage night stands at an antique store for only $40 each!!  They are a grayish color despite the poor quality of these pictures below.

I used ice cube trays to store all my jewelry in my new night stands!  Love this organization trick!

The only other piece of furniture I REALLY wanted was an upholstered bed.  They are just so regal and classy to me.  Joss and main has bed events frequently and I scored this one for $650.

My sketch of the idea I had for the molding and then the actual dimensions.  See the full tutorial here.

Taping off and painting.  I couldn’t wait to hang my starburst mirror, either.  It’s from Home Depot, though they don’t carry it anymore.  Really similar ones can be found at Home Goods and Kirkland’s.

The wall opposite the bed felt neglected and I’m a HUGE fan of symmetry so I decided to give it the same fair treatment!

Here’s the light upgrade I did by the closets.  The husband was not compromising on the fan in the bedroom.  I kind of agree with him that a fan is best in the bedroom even though I wanted a chandelier really, really bad!

Painted the doors black!  Very bold, rich and unique if you ask me!

Framed out a cork board from Target to hang pictures and jewelry on.  See the full tutorials with supplies here!

Upgraded all the knobs on my Ikea Hemnes dressers to tie them in with my antique night stands.  Scored these knobs at Lowe’s for just over $1!  See the full post on blending old and new furniture here.

  1. Everything is gorgeous!!!!!! Do you know the color of the bed upholstery? It looks like the Skyline brand I’ve been eyeing – any comments on quality?

    Really beautiful!

    1. Thank you so much Liz!! It’s the Halifax bed in Sandstone and the quality has been great for me! I order from Joss all the time and haven’t had any issues.

      1. I recently found you on Instagram and you have inspired me to do so many changes. Haven’t actually done many just yet but the black doors were a must. We did them all and LOVE THEM. thank you for that! But my question for you did you add touches of black in your room and bathroom to go off the door color? My bath currently has more bronze but I’m changing it all to nickel but my cabinets are currently a brown color. Wasn’t sure how you tied it all in for your bathroom, looks like your room the dresser and mirror are black correct?

        1. Tanya, this comment means so much to mean and I really appreciate you taking the time to leave such kind words! That’s awesome you did the black doors! I love mine and so glad you do too! To answer your question, my bedroom has 2 espresso dressers (essentially black) which help pull together the doors. Also, I have espresso bamboo shades on my 2 bedroom windows, as well as my bathroom window. I specifically added all of those to help tie in the black doors and it definitely helped, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I will probably be removing the dark bamboo shades soon as I will be changing things up a bit but I am not worried about the doors matching. I hope this helps!

          1. Thank you for the response you have definitely helped me once again! Keep up such the great work you are inspiring so many!

  2. I painted every door in my house black 2 summers ago! Best thing I’ve ever done and everyone who comes in comments on the richness of them. I love the way you framed in and painted the accents of the front and back wall. I am eyeing this idea to use somewhere!!!

  3. You are seriously an inspiration! I love, love, love your style and your know-how is AMAZING. I wish I had your DIY skills so badly! Definitely learning so much from reading your blog. I’m actually redocrating our master right now…and I’m mounting our TV above my dresser as well….I have a huge dilemma about what to do with the cords and cable box. I didn’t notice any hanging cords in your picture…what did you do with the cords?!

    1. Thank you so much Maryam! Your sweet words seriously mean so much to me! As for the cords, they are actually hiding behind the flowers! I pulled the cords over to one side, and then literally used a push pin straight into the wall to “drape” the cords over. They fall down behind the dresser behind the flowers. I hid them in a more “official” way in my downstairs family room, and I plan on writing a blog post about that eventually! Essentially, I used a small piece of wood to hide the cords behind and painted the wood the same color as the wall. I hope this helps!
