TV Stand turned Wardrobe Closet

| | | |

Hey there!  I took a couple weeks off, but I’m back to share more projects with you guys.  In my last post, I showed you guys the pink birthday party I decorated for a friend’s daughter.  Well this week I’m sharing the TV stand turned Wardrobe closet I made for the Birthday girl.  My friend mentioned to me several months ago that she “saw this thing on Pinterest” where they turned an old TV stand into a wardrobe closet and how she thought her daughter would just love it.  She’s a big Disney princess fan and has plenty of dresses, and accessories that needed a home in her new room.  Well fast forward a few months and I saw this TV stand posted on my neighborhood buy/sell site for $40.

I immediately texted her and asked if her daughter still wanted the wardrobe closet because I thought this would be the perfect piece for it.  Of course she said YES!  So I picked up this piece the same night for only $40.  Such a score!

I wiped it down with a rag, and removed the shelves and doors before I started painting.  I bought Annie Sloan’s chalk paint in pure white and used a standard paint brush and foam roller.  I painted all the crevasses and edges with the brush and rolled the rest with the foam roller.  (No sanding or any prep before hand, just paint!)

I hate to say it, but it took 4 coats to get it covered well.  I used two cans of Annie Sloan (which aren’t cheap) so looking back, I wish I would have used a cheaper brand of chalk paint.

I gave the shelves and doors 4 coats as well.  I avoided painting multiple coats inside the door cabinets just to save on paint (and time & money).

Once I was done painting, I used a new foam roller and wallpaper paste to glue the leftover wallpaper I had from my closet reno to the back of the TV stand.  (Here’s a link to the wallpaper.)

The back of the TV stand was made up of 3 panels.  I rolled on the glue to the back of the wallpaper and then smoothed it on the panels.

When I got to the ends, I simply folded them over the back side and taped them.  Super easy!

Here they are once I flipped them back over.

Then I nailed them right back up the way they were before using my nail gun.  The folded over wallpaper can only been seen from the back, so who cares 🙂

I scored these knobs at HomeGoods one day for only $7.99!  I only needed 2, so I got to save the other 2. They are crystal and gold.  So perfect with the white, gold, and girly look I was going for!

I added a metal closet rod where one of the shelves used to be, to use as a hanging bar for her dresses.  And here is the finished product!
