Old House & New House Updates!

| | | | | | |

I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated on either house!  So much going on over here, whew!!

Let me hit some of the highlights real quick:

  • We listed our current home for sale on May 16th, and accepted a full price offer on May 21st!  So thankful!
  • Celebrated Aiden’s First Birthday and combined gender reveal party on June 3rd!  Yes, we are welcoming our second baby this Halloween!
  • Closed on our current home June 30th, but the amazing buyers are letting us rent back and stay here until our new house is done at the end of August.  Bless them!!
  • A little under a month away from closing on our new, dream home!

So yes, my pride and joy is officially SOLD.  The house I’ve poured blood sweat and tears into over the last 4.5 years.  I could go on and on about how much I love this house, how much I learned, how much it taught me, and how much I’ll miss it, but I might soak my keyboard in tears.  I honestly try not to think about it much, because I truly get emotional.  Thankfully, I have so many things on my plate keeping me busy right now that I don’t have much time to slow down and think.  I’m looking ahead, taking what I’ve learned, and getting excited for new projects, new designs and an AMAZING new house.

Speaking of new projects and new designs, a lot of people have asked if I am keeping most of my furniture or not.  The answer is yes – most of it.  Our new house is slightly smaller than our current house so there are some things that just physically can’t come with us.  Like this bar.

Not to mention that with 2 babies, a bar isn’t really high on my priority list.  My husband may beg to differ, but I won this argument.   The new buyers REALLY wanted the bar so their wish was granted!  Mine too 😉

Another piece that’s not coming with us is our breakfast room table.  I really love this table and think it’s been perfect in our kitchen, but our new house just won’t fit a round table.  The new space is very narrow so it definitely needs a long, rectangular table as opposed to a round one.  Which was the perfect opportunity for me to finally build something for US.  I just finished building the table and I’ll be sharing that here on the blog soon!

The buyers also really wanted this table when I offered it to them so it will be staying here as well!  The only other major furniture that’s not coming to the new house is my old office/craft room furniture.  Funny story – I sold this furniture to a girl on Facebook marketplace who happened to be one of the showings who looked at buying our house!

Long ago, back before Frills & Drills, and before babies, I used to love scrapbooking and card/paper crafts.  Don’t get me wrong, I still love that kind of stuff, but I have to narrow down my hobbies around here.  I don’t have enough time, and certainly don’t have the space in our new house to devote an entire room to scrapbooking and crafting.  I have saved my favorite things and will be storing them in our new guest room for the occasional time that I break them out and craft.

This is probably my all time favorite view in our house and I’m 100% going to miss it.

Wiping up my tears here…on to the new house update!  Here is where we were the last time I updated:

IMG_0496

They had just drywalled.  Since then A LOT has happened!  They painted all the interior walls (my absolute fave: accessible beige by Sherwin Williams) and laid all the wood look tile.

IMG_0623

They also laid all the tile in the bathrooms.  I died and went to heaven when I saw the master shower marble subway.  Swoon!

Here is the floor in the master bath.

I used this larger marble look tile on the walls of the other showers as well.  And how about our interior doors??  They are 8 feet tall and have 6 panels.  I absolutely adore them.

AND THEN THE CABINETS WENT IN.  Insert all the heart eyes possible.

I will let the pictures do the talking.

IMG_0759

The ceilings are SO tall in our main areas (12 feet!) and the pictures don’t do them justice.  The cabinets are all 42″ tall and I can only reach the bottom 2 shelves for perspective haha!  I guess we will have lots of storage for rarely used things up top!

My custom master vanity.  I am beyond excited for all of these drawers (READ: storage) since I opted to remove the linen closet from our master bath.

The guest bath/kid bath/hall bath vanity.

And then came the countertops, light fixtures, appliances, and shower glass!!

And the tub.  THE TUB, you guys.  Can we (I) just stop and drool over this for a moment?  I’m pretty sure I have been waiting my whole life for a free standing tub!

Here’s the awesome hubby helping me measure my new mirrors to make sure they’ll fit at our new vanity 🙂

Here’s the dining/poker room where I was taping over the TV outlets with a canvas I want to use to cover the TV once it’s mounted here.

This week the landscaping goes in, the carpet goes in, and next week the cabinet guy will finish the built in kitchen hood and molding around the edges.  After that it’s a bunch of touch ups and THAT’S IT!!

We are tentatively closing on August 29th, but I’m praying it’s a few days earlier.  We have to be out of our current house by August 31st so I’d love a few day buffer!

I plan on writing a post about things we chose to pay the builder to do and things we chose to wait and do ourselves after the fact to save money.  So look our for that soon!  The next several weeks will consist of lots of packing, organizing and finally MOVING!  I am so, SO excited!
