Master Bedroom Updates & DIY Curtains

| | | | | | |

Hope y’all are enjoying your weekend!  I’ve spent mine mostly relaxing and doing little small things around the house.  Nothing big going on around here for once!  I did want to share with you some new purchases I made for our master bedroom, though!

Remember my design board?

I already shared my wall update, and nightstand makeover a few posts back, and today I wanted to share with you my new curtains, rug and bedding!

Here’s a reminder of my room before:

Dark beige curtains, beige/blue/brown bedding, and a cream shag rug.  My new design includes much lighter and brighter textiles, including white curtains, white/blue bedding, and a neutral design rug.

For the curtains, I went with the Ritva panels from IKEA.  I’ve seen them used by plenty of gals (namely Megan from itsagrandvillelife.com & Kelley Nan from kelleynan.com) and they look absolutely fabulous.  The best part?  They were on sale for $24 a pair, or $12 a panel!!  Such a score!  These curtains come in 2 lengths, 98″ and 118″ inches.  I went with the 98″ and hemmed them with iron on hem tape.  Here’s how I did that:

Curtain panels & hem tape:

First I ironed out all the wrinkles.

I knew I needed my panels to be 92″ to work in my bedroom, so I measured 6: from the bottom and folded it up and ironed on the fold.

Next I opened up the fold and placed the hem tape along the folded line.

I folded the curtain back over the tape and ironed again.

Last, I cut off the excess.

And here’s how my new curtains turned out!

Notice I also moved the rods up a lot higher than they were before.  I wanted to align them with the top of the molding on the other walls to make a straight line all the way across the room.  This gives the illusion of much higher ceilings, and overall a larger space.  I love difference it made!

And you already got a sneak peak, but here are pics of my new Catherine rug from Ballard Designs:

I almost forgot, but the bench is also new!  I scored this at Marshall’s for a fraction of the price of the Ballard Designs one that looks identical!  And I sold my previous bench online, so my new one didn’t cost much at all!

And last but not least, my new bedding!  It’s all from Ballard Designs.  If you haven’t guessed yet, I’m kind of obsessed with that store!

I have 3 euro pillows in the back, and 3 standard shams up front.

The duvet cover is solid white with beige pom poms around the edge that match my upholstered bed nicely.

Added my HomeGoods tray and my old, blue Target throw to complete the bed!

  1. Hi,

I love this room. It’s put together beautifully. My husband and I close on our house in a few weeks and this room will be my inspiration when designing our master bedroom. Where did you get your bed?

    Thanks,

    Elisa

    1. Hi Elisa! Thanks so much for the sweet comment. My bed is from joss and main. It’s the halifax bed in sandstone. Good luck with your new room! 🙂

  2. Love this!!! What is the name of your sheet set/standard pillow shams? Love the design on the sham!

    1. Thank you Brittany! The blue shams are the Emma Jute Trim from Ballard, the polka dot ones are the Dodie animal print from Ballard, and the euro pom in the back is the Audree pom pom bedding from Ballard. Hope that helps! 🙂
