Master Bedroom Refresh [REVEAL]

| | | | | | | |

If you’ve been following my blog lately, you know that I’ve been in the process of “refreshing” my Master Bedroom.  The technical way of saying, I was already tired of the design I put together for it a year and half ago and wanted something different.  But I wasn’t going to get any new furniture  (I know I’m crazy, but not that crazy!), just new accessories to lighten it up.  I finally got around to taking photos of the finished room and I’m finally here to share them with you!

Here’s the digital design board I put together a few months ago when I started this project.

My main goals in the refresh were:

  1. To lighten up the whole space
  2. Remove a lot of the brown
  3. Bring in some blue

Again, it’s the same bed, same night stands, and same dressers we currently have.  The only new “furniture” purchase was the bench, if it even counts.

Here are my progress posts on the room:

Master Bedroom Updates & DIY Curtains

I wanted to include a floor plan of our bedroom as well so you can get an idea of the layout.

Here’s our bedroom when we first moved into our house in early 2013.  It was transplanted from our first home and we actually had the teal & brown scheme ever since 2009.  Gag.

Here’s our room when I completely made it over in early 2014.  (You can read more about that here.)

Let me just say that I didn’t hate our room the way it was.  I really liked the fundamental elements of it.  I am still completely in love with our new bed and my thrift store nightstand finds.  And even the gold sunburst mirror.  But I just didn’t like how everything was so beige and brown and dark.  The mirror blended in with the wall, the nightstands looked green most of the time, and it was overall just “blah” to me.  I wanted something much lighter, brighter, and more cheery.  I understand that a lot of people will say “but it looked so good already, why did you have to change it?”  And I get that.  But when my passion is design, I get bored with the same ol’ and thrive on making changes.  Plus I never want to run out of projects 🙂

  1. I like the newer softer palette a lot.. The only thing I don’t like is the dark blinds/valence. Can’t quite see the detail but it’s too dark with your softer colors. I think if you remove those it would look much better.

    1. Thanks Sue! It’s so funny you say that because I debated for a long time whether or not I was going to put those dark shades back up. I had them in my “old” bedroom design and hated to let them go to waste since I just bought them last year. My whole house has them on almost every window so that’s why I left them. And also, I thought they tied in with my dressers since they are much darker than everything else in the room, to create some cohesiveness.

  2. Hey Lindsay,

    Thanks for outstanding post

  3. Outstanding job with the mater bedroom, great ideals. My question is, what type of tv service do you have that does not require all of the cables?

  4. I will be getting married later this year and will be moving out of my parent home into my own with my future husband. I wish I had you in my life because it’s such a scary thought to have my own place for the first time and I have no idea what I’m doing or how everything will come together. You blog gives me so much inspiration to be more handy like you. I hope I can be an ounce as creative as you are Lindsay, thank you for your blog and everything you teach me.
