Laundry Room DIY Renovation

| | | | | | | | | | | |

Laundry room reveal day!  It’s finally here!  On one hand I feel like this has taken 82 years, but on the other hand I feel like I was just posting about my laundry room makeover at our old house (which was *gasp* in 2015!)  While I can say that my style has changed some over the years, my washer and dryer certainly has not!  One of my main goals/challenges for this space was to work around our existing laundry machines, while also keeping in mind they won’t be here forever and I’d like to make this space work for potential front loading machines in the future.

To truly appreciate this renovation you need to be reminded of where I started just 7 weeks ago.

Some of my other goals for our laundry room were to:

  1. Add more storage.  (Our house lacks storage in general)
  2. Hide all of the vacuum/broom/mop stuff
  3. Create a countertop area for folding clothes
  4. Keep adequate hanging space
  5. Add hooks for more hanging/storage
  6. Not break the bank
  7. Keep the laundry basket open and exposed so I can continue walking by and throwing things in from the doorway!
  8. Be gorgeous and flow with the rest of my home

Here was the design plan I came up with:

And here’s how it turned out!

  3. Loved following along on this laundry room makeover. You killed it!! I think it turned out better than your plans. Do you mind doing a cost breakdown of everything you spent? I know you mentioned contractor quotes were much higher. I’d love to know the comparison. Thank you so much!

    1. Thank you Allison! I definitely should have included that! Cabinets were about $600-$700. Tile was about $450. Shelves and gold rod and hardware were roughly $120.

  4. Eek! This space is AMAZING!!! I love how it turned out and that cabinet color is perfection! Your DIY skills are impressive! You’re inspiring me to tackle some projects on my own.

  5. Can yo talk about how you measured for your cabinet doors? I’ve read the info on Barker Doors but I’m still not 100% confident. Thanks! Love the transformation of your laundry room!

    1. Hi Caroline! So sorry for the delayed reply. I measured for my doors based on the overlay hinges I bought. I used 3/4″ blum overlay hinges which means the doors overlay the face frame by 3/4″ all the way around. So whatever the cabinet opening was, I added 3/4″ to every single side. I hope that helps!
